This dataset provides geo-locations and summary statistics for all publicly funded schools in Scotland (local authority and grant-aided) in 2025. It is derived primarily from two sources, the School Contact Details and School Level Summary Statistics publications. The dataset is updated on an annual basis for use within analysis, monitoring overall performance, equality and individual policies.
Geo-locations for the schools have been sourced from grid references provided by the schools Unique Property Reference Number (UPRN). Where a school has more than one school type at the same location (e.g. primary and secondary), these are counted as separate schools with a separate point location though they may share the same Scottish Educational Establishment Database (SEED) code.
Summary statistics are included for the pupil role, full time equivalent teachers, pupil teacher ratios, average class sizes, additional support needs, language and Gaelic tuition, minority ethnic backgrounds, free school meal registrations and deprivation. Statistics are reflective of the pupil census undertaken in September 2025.
Schools have also been assigned a deprivation ranking based on the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD) 2020. Note that this is reflective of the school’s 2011 data zone assignment as SIMD had not yet been updated to reflect 2022 data zones at the time of publication. Urban Rural assignments using the 2022 Urban Rural Classification have been provided for both the school’s address and the data zone in which it is located. Assignments may be different for the address/data zone in about 2.5% of cases. Discretion is required when considering which assignment should be used for a given project.

",
